I had the pleasure of working with Barbara through my position as SVP of Design at Kohls, when we hired her as a guest designer for our Tek Gear brand in 2022. As part of our strategy to connect with more diverse customers, Barbara was tasked to create capsule collections for women's, men's and kids for Fall 22 and Spring 23. Barbara's collaborative approach was a huge win with our design and merchandising teams. Her design skill, knowledge and experience in the active space, along with her ability to connect authentically with black customers, advanced us on our D&I journey. Her collection hit home, performed well, over-indexed with black customers and brought new people to Kohl's. From a personal perspective, I learned a lot and count Barbara not only as a colleague but as a friend. A total gem.
Barbara is an invaluable asset to any team trying to execute a creative vision for their brand. She sees what's happening in the market, and knows how to adapt & deliver on both trend & business opportunities. She understands it's all about the customer! (let's be honest, not all creatives do) Given her extensive knowledge & expertise in apparel design & strategy, she's an incredible resource for design teams as well. She works ready to do what's needed to realize the vision. she's a pleasure to work with. She works with everyone as a partner, without ego, in confidence, optimism & grace. Working with Barbara reminded me of what's possible in my career, and all that's yet to come if I remain focused on my vision!
It was a pleasure of mine to work with Barbara on multiple collections at Kohls. She brought with her a unique perspective and the ability to lead and carry her design concepts all the way to an uncompromised, finished product. She uniquely led our product development team to achieve a new advanced aesthetic that really resonated with our customer. What we learned from working with her will stay with us. Barbara's vision and voice inspire trust and brings out amazing work from the people with whom she partners. I should also add that on a personal level, it was wonderful to work with someone so friendly and enthusiastic about design.
"We have been working with Barbara Clarke Ruiz for many seasons. Each season her Performance Running collections are on trend and are top sellers for our brand. We have enjoyed working with Barbara on our line."
"Barbara consistently delivers against the client's briefs and reaches the consumer with fresh and innovative designs. Her products are very directional with all the commercial qualities that brands desire."

The BCR collections exceeded expectations, delivering outstanding results by boosting sales from 2% to 22% with thisconsumer group within six weeks. As the Design Director of Eleven By Venus, a clothing line founded by none other
than the tennis legend Venus Williams herself – one of the most accomplished and
inspiring women in the history of sports – I had the honor of collaborating closely
with her and playing a pivotal role in nurturing the brand from its inception to a
thriving enterprise over a period of 4½ years.
It is a testament to her enduring influence that Eleven has received extensive
coverage in numerous media outlets, including CBS Sunday Morning, In Style,
